When thinking about our first blog post on our brand new site, this topic jumped off the page. It's a deeper question than it may appear, and often an uncomfortable one, it is ultimately of vital importance though because really it is at the core of who we are and what we do.
When answering this question our instincts can jump to practical conclusions rather than abstract considerations. 'I get up because I need to go to work. I need to go to work so that I can pay the bills. I need to pay the bills so that I can live in this house, my children can go to this school, my partner and I can go on holidays' or simply 'It's because I need to put food on the table'.
The trouble with not exploring beyond the practicalities is that we limit our thinking. When we limit our thinking we unconsciously limit what is possible for us – to do, to be, to have.
A great awakening can occur when we are able to answer the question, 'Why do I get up in the morning?' with a response that makes us feel alive, vibrant, energised - a response that reaches far beyond the practical, a response that taps into who we truly are.
The truth is that when we know what our purpose is, what we stand for, what we believe in the answer to 'Why do I get up in the morning?' becomes a lot clearer and a lot more meaningful.
If we get up in the morning because we feel a compulsion to fulfil our purpose through our work, through our play and ultimately through the way we live our lives. Getting up in the morning becomes a joy, a propulsive energy, as opposed to a 'must-do' or 'should'.
